Organized as part of the Government of India‘s Urban Mobility India (UMI) conference, the TUMI Hackathon brought together more than 40 entrepreneurs, programmers, urban planners, civil engineers, and designers for 48 hours, brainstorming, conceptualizing and coding – with the aim to develop an app, positively transforming Nagpur´s mobility system.
The goal was to come up with solutions for first- and last mile connectivity. The event was jointly organized by TUMI, by the Working Group Transport & Environment of the sector network TUEWAS, and GIZ Integrated and sustainable urban transport systems in Smart Cities (SMART-SUT) in cooperation with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), Government of India, Maha Metro, Nagpur, Municipal Corporation and WhereIsMyTransport (WIMT).
The basic assumption underpinning digital TUMI activities around the world is that innovation is no longer optional; it is essential so cities can continue to deliver results and improve the life of their residents. As part of the TUMI innovation process to transform cities the Hackathon series supports our goal to establish smart digital mobility as a fundamental element of sustainable development worldwide. Among the winning ideas are innovative apps allowing enabling seamless, flexible trips integrated with formal & informal public transport and on-demand taxi services.
